At 10th Floor Studio, we create works that challenge the underlying philosophy of our built environments, whose sterile characteristics alienate us from the other species with whom we share life on this planet. Our practice is part art and design studio, and part research lab. We’ve been collaborating with and learning from different species (mostly fungi), and have incorporated their materiality and narratives into the center of our practice. Most of our pieces were alive and grown, before being dehydrated and preserved. We have visions where the brutalist, industrial logic of aluminum is harmonized with the warm chaos of fungi. Through this unexpected juxtaposition we’re exploring post-industrial futures where humanity strives for symbiosis with other life forms with whom our fates are intertwined. Our goal is to create provocations drawing attention to socio-ecological issues, and inviting others into to realm of collaborative transformation.
