Aurea Andrades is a designer who merges traditional techniques with innovative, eco-conscious practices. With a foundation in sewing and upcycling, she began by reworking discarded textiles into fresh, functional pieces. Combining her background in biology and her interest in sustainability, Aurea expanded her practice to include the use of bioplastics derived from gelatin, integrating these biodegradable materials into her garments to reduce environmental impact. In addition to her work with alternative materials, Aurea is exploring the use of bacterial dyes—specifically cultivated on cotton kurtas. This bio-dyeing process involves harnessing the natural properties of bacteria to create sustainable colorways, offering a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional textile dyeing methods.
