141 CANAL STREET, 3RD FLOOR NEW YORK, NY
Costanza Damiani (b. 1999, Rome, Italy) is a New York based photographer artist. She studied photography at the International Center of Photography. Damiani’s artistic foundation is deeply influenced by her early career as a violinist, having performed with the renowned youth ensemble JuniOrchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Her experience includes high-profile productions such as The Andrea Bocelli Show at the Colosseum in Rome, alongside artists like Elton John, as well as national television appearances. She primarily conveys her work through photography, often incorporating mixed media such as paint and tactile materials. Her practice also extends into fashion photography and portraiture.
NEW YORK – Fugue Gallery is pleased to present Bleu, the first New York solo exhibition of Italian photographer artist Costanza Damiani. Bleu is a meditation on color, texture, and form—a quiet mapping of the emotional traces we leave on one another. It reflects on the weight and softness of connection, the lingering imprint of presence.
Damiani’s work is rooted in the belief that every human interaction leaves a metaphorical mark—positive or
negative—on those involved. As humans, we are shaped by our environments, by our relationships, and by the ephemeral encounters that define who we are, who we were, and who we will become. Bleu translates this concept into a visual and tactile language, using a selection of malleable materials to symbolize the fragility and complexity of the human psyche. The artist impresses these surfaces with marks and gestures that serve both as exploration and deeply personal response.
Central to Damiani’s practice is her experience of synesthesia—a condition where one sense involuntarily
triggers another. The title Bleu is not incidental: it represents not only a color but a sensorial perception—a
memory, a smell, a texture, a shape. Each piece becomes a response to an emotional imprint left on the artist’s life. Through this work, Damiani invites the viewer into a contemplative space—to pause and consider the subtle impressions we leave on those around us, even in passing.
