In this group show, Fugue Gallery collaborated with Worlds Through Minds and Sunset Studios, to invite local NYC photographers to submit images to be installed on the ceiling at FUGUE Gallery. Taking inspiration from Roman frescos, we wanted to encourage viewers to see art and themselves from a new and fresh perspective.
Imaginary ceilings exist in our minds, communities, and the world around us. They are metaphorical barriers that keep us confined and limit our potential. Fugue Gallery invites photographers to give imagery to these invisible limits, using your lens to capture the barriers we strive to shatter and the spaces just beyond them we wish to explore.
Through this open call, we invite artists to submit new works that interpret the idea of the “ceiling” in all its forms: physical, psychological, emotional, or societal. Submissions may depict literal ceilings—be they walls, glass, sky—or figurative ones, such as social structures, personal fears, or conceptual constraints. The exhibition will be a collective exploration of the dreams and quiet struggles that fuel our ambition to move beyond what limits us.
