NEW YORK – Reflective Glass presents a body of work by a wide variety of artists, ranging from gelatin silver prints, oil on wool, site-specific installation, and projections. Curated by Adam Choi Nordby and Carter Guthrie, the show is a means to find interpretations and elaborations of intrapersonal conversations about the transmutation of our identity to the world beyond via visual medium.
“Somewhere, we exist in between that pane which separates and joins ourselves with the outer world. Whether it's through our bedroom window, behind illuminated screens connecting us to billions of others, in the eyes of someone you love, or by way of tragedy in the fabled clear pool, we all exist concurrently as refraction and immersion, light and shadow, one of many. As we witness and are witnessed within this paradox, desire and reality are often not so easy to discern, and established shapes are often too obscure”. -Adam Choi Nordby
Reflective Glass implies an inherent interference which we peer through and, in turn, back at ourselves. Artists are encouraged to submit work that examines this feeling, the transmutation of our identity to the world beyond. Where do we exist in both? How do we exist in both? This collection aims to explore the connection between our internal selves, swirling with dreams and desire, and the external realities which give us shape — the blurred line between belonging and longing.

Carter Guthrie follows patterns to observe a greater narrative about sensuality and social obligations. While her main artistic method is lens based, they have found that collage and experimenting with expired films allows her freedom to discover new associations.
Adam Choi Nordby is a Korean-Norwegian writer, lens-based artist, and mechanical engineer based in NYC. His artistic practice is rooted in the examination of personal and collective identity, peering past the walls we've created for ourselves and others. Exploring the connective tissue of the human experience through the themes of time, wounds, and healing, Adam investigates the Asian American experience, the scars created by imperialism, and the alienation of xenophobia. Through his work, Adam bridges art and science to create collaborative avenues that seek to heal ailing wounds — physical, persistently invisible, and generational.
