NEW YORK –

Fugue Gallery is pleased to present Between Vessels, the first solo exhibition by Sarah Ringrave (based in Paris). The exhibition will be on view from 4/9/26 to 4/29/26 at 141 Canal St 3FL, New York.

Sarah Ringrave creates a visual universe with large scale paintings and sculpture to explore the body through its transitional states—its cycles, metamorphoses, and hybridizations. Guided by a cosmological vision of the essence that flows through matter, Ringrave approaches relics as channels between the earthly and the divine, conceiving of the body as a mystical container—an envelope or vessel traversed by invisible forces beyond ordinary perception.

Inspired as much by Egyptian cosmology, which views life on Earth as a kind of waiting room, as by personal encounters experienced in altered states of consciousness, her paintings and sculptures present bodies in process: fragmentary forms that appear suspended between formation and dissolution, between incarnation and afterlife. In these works, life itself is understood as a passage rather than a fixed state.

The motif of the door, recurring throughout Ringrave’s practice, finds its fullest expression in her newest body of work. Here, the door becomes a portal—an entry point between realms, a threshold, and a symbolic container within which alchemical transformation occurs.

Her materials reinforce this language of transformation: oxidizing gold leaf laminated onto wood, layered wax that solidifies over time, and formal references to the relic all emphasize the alchemical nature of both matter and the body—each in a constant state of transformation, preservation, and transmutation.

About Sarah Ringrave

Sarah is a multidisciplinary artist based in Paris. She works across painting and sculpture,. After earning a Bachelor degree in fashion design from Duperré School, followed by a master’s degree in Ecology of Arts and Media at Paris VIII, she went on to learn sculpture and painting in New York City and Paris by apprenticing with world renown artists.

She explores the multiple states of embodied being: its cycles, transformations, and hybridizations. Moving between materiality and immateriality, this transient body—forming, decomposing, or dissolving—becomes a channel of expression, a threshold between different worlds. She perceives it as a space of passage, a shifting territory where the idea of metamorphosis is constantly re-enacted. Bodies freeze or spill into landscapes, between earth and air…

She questions: what becomes of the line or mass that distinguishes one being from another when the flesh disintegrates? How does matter, through its mutations and the memory it carries, become the support of identities—both individual and collective? Her subjects are notably inspired by visions experienced during sessions of hypnosis or trance, where other layers of perception and reality emerge.
